Sylvie at daycare
Kaniz, the woman who takes care of Sylvie on Wednesdays while I'm at work, often sends pictures of Sylvie's activities during the day. It's a great way to get updates and know that she had a good time, since I always feel guilty about leaving her for so long on that day. Definitely the best thing about Sylvie going to daycare is that she has a chance to socialize with other babies. As you can see, too, it seems like she's found a new boyfriend. Quentin, the new boy, is pretty cute. She's got good taste!
Uh oh. Should we be nervous about this?

Drumlin Farm
This past Sunday, we took a drive out to Drumlin farm in Lincoln. Sylvie fell asleep about 10 minutes before our arrival, so Katie and I read in the car for a little bit until she woke up. There's animals to see! I think she had a good time. After all, she is fascinated with our cat Marley and dogs. Why not throw chickens, horses, and pigs into the mix?

In my opinion, the highlight of the visit was when we were checking out the sheep & goats. An adventurous chicken took it upon himself to try out three strollers in just a few minutes. An Animaniacs skit comes to mind: ♪ You wear a disguise to look like human guys. But your not a man; you're a chicken boo. ♪

Fresh Pond
Beau, Sylvie and I took a stroll around Fresh Pond (in Cambridge) this afternoon. It was a lovely day; warm with a touch of the fall in the air. After our walk, we sat for a little on the grass where Sylvie proceeded to tear up some grass, and Mom and Dad fiddled around with the camera.

Hats and a Wedding
I finally got around this weekend to going through Sylvie's dresser drawers and picking out all the clothing items that no longer fit her. I've had to do this a couple times over the past nine months for obvious reasons, and there is always a pang of nostalgia that comes with it...the thought that she'll never be that small again. But it's also exciting to see her growth in a very concrete way. So, it's a mixed bag. Plus, there are more fun clothes for her to wear as she gets older (largely thanks to her older cousin, Lily, as well as gifts received from family over the months).
Some of those items include several really cute hats that she got when she was born and hasn't had a chance to wear because they were too big for her. Not any more! Her she is, modeling a couple of them.

Also this weekend, Sylvie went to her first wedding! One of Beau's friends from work got married on Sunday in Sherborne, MA--a beautiful area I had never been out to. Sylvie dressed in her finest and impressed a lot of guests with her excellent behavior.

*A note: As you can see, some of these pictures are blurred. It is hard to get a shot in without her moving these days. She's quite the mover and shaker. More on that, and her rolling abilities, to be continued on a future post...

Daddy's New Job
I know this is Sylvie's blog, but I thought this might be a good place to mention I recently took a new job. My start date is Sept 22nd. I've worked at my current company for a LONG time; my last day be nearly 9 years to the day. Over the span of my time at Altus, I had five different job titles. So at least I changed it up every 2 years. Altus has an uncertain future and they're moving to Waltham in 2 months. Everything together, it seemed time to make a departure.
The new position is at a small startup company in Boston, right near Park Street station. They're called the Book of Odds. I'll be an Applications Developer, which will involve designing and implementing their probabilistic/statistical database, developing tools to migrate and update content, and assisting in the creation of the website. It should a great opportunity to build something from the ground up.
It'll be nice to work in Boston. Most of my time is spent in Cambridge these days. I still love Cambridge's feel over Boston, but the downtown has its perks. There's a lively vibe downtown, with plenty of spots around (certainly more than Waltham!) The Boston Common is also a great place to relax. I have fond memories of hanging out in the Common while first moving to Boston and enjoying some "downtime". I'm hoping Sylvie will visit for lunch once and a while. It think it was the best decision for all of us. The extra commute time to Waltham meant less time I could spend with Sylvie in the mornings and evenings. Who knows, maybe I'll even join the scooter posse. Don't need 2 cars anymore, it might be a good trade.

I want to suck your milk
Here's a shot of Sylvie's front teeth coming in. It has not been easy to get this picture. I had to resort to lying her back and bringing on giggles...
