Bon Voyage, Chicago

We made it back to Boston Sunday evening to complete Sylvie's first airplane trip. As relaxed as I tend to be, I was a little nervous about managing "babies on planes". In the age of B.B. (before baby), I saw all the other poor parents schlepping their kids on planes and thought "you poor people". I knew deep down each middle-aged guy in the window seat next to us still had that uneasy feeling when we sat down.

But Sylvie handled herself well and even wooed some fellow passengers. The plan for Sylvie's Spring 2008 Chicago tour was to meet some of Katie's family for the first time. And there's a lot of people to meet. Talk about a busy girl.We were fortunate enough to stay with Anne a few nights in Wilmette. Anne is Katie's step aunt. She had quite the bed & breakfast. She awarded Sylvie the prize of "2nd Cutest Baby". I understand the familial ordering of one's children & grandchildren. Yet we're happy with Sylvie's current ranking in her eyes. Katie and I thank Anne for all her hospitality, stimulating conversation, and interest in Sylvie. I plan to Pay it Forward, Anne.

Throughout the week, we visited Jenny (Katie's sister) and Sylvie's cousins Patrick and Lily. While everyone was getting prizes, I thought I'd vie for "Most Fun/Child-like Uncle".

Katie's mother Beth also stopped by Jenny's for some photo ops. We stayed with Beth our last night in her spacious Cary home. We had a nice dinner with Beth and Fred. More mushrooms please!

Sylvie also had a developmental event this weekend: Back-to-Belly rollover. She was definitely on her way last week, but she pulled it out on Friday. I'm sure she is thinking "Uh oh, now I have to learn how to roll back."

Some other visitors this trip included Katie's grandmother Babara, her Uncle Rob & his wife Katie, and Katie's father & his family. Sylvie was working the crowd.

It was great seeing everyone and we look forward to another Chicago visit.
